Fourth of July – Safety Tips

We all know the Fourth of July is a BLAST! But we also need to be sure we don’t blast off our hands…or other body parts.

Yes, there are thousands of firework-related injuries every year. Don’t be one of them by following these safety tips:

  • Double check there are no bans on fireworks in your area. You might start a fire…or get a hefty ticket.
  • Adult supervision required! Keep your children safe. Don’t let them play with, ya know, fire.
  • Fine, most of us are going to light a few fireworks. Just keep a bucket of water handy in case things ago awry.
  • If you get a “dud,” don’t relight it! Take that bucket of water and douse it. Then throw the blasted thing away and curse your misfortune.
  • Make good decisions and NEVER light fireworks in a container, especially glass or metal. Cause, “Kaboom!”
  • Hosting a BBQ? Some people might like to char their hotdogs, but don’t char your property! Keep your grill away from your home and deck railings, and away from branches or overhangs.
  • Other grill safety notes that seem obvious, but might not be after a few beers:
    • Remember to open your gas grill before lighting.
    • Remove grease or fat buildup in trays.
    • Keep your kiddos and four-legged friends safe by creating a three-foot “kid and pet-free zone” around the grill.
    • Wearing a flowing dress or loose shirt? Keep it away from those flames!

Bottom line: Make good choices this Fourth of July. It’s all fun and games until someone or something goes up in smoke. Poof!
